Title:Main Title: Dataset: Spatial-temporal analysis of land-use and land-cover change in East Pokot, Kenya
Description:Abstract: This data set contains a time series analysis of land use classifications from 1985-2015 in northern Baringo County, Kenya. The region is located in one of the study areas of the CRC/Transregio 228: “Future Rural Africa: Future-Making and Social-Ecological Transformation”. The analysis illustrates the land-use and land-cover changes over a period of 30 years in a region predominantly inhabited by Pokot pastoralists. The classification is provided in GeoTIFF and in ASCII format with a 30m spatial resolution.

Lineage:Multispectral Landsat surface reflectance data of the East Pokot region at 30m spatial resolution were acquired from Landsat 4/5 Thematic Mapper (TM), Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Landsat 8 Optical Land Imager (OLI) at half-decadal intervals from the EarthExplorer webpage (https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/). Surface reflectance for Landsat 4–7 is generated with the Landsat ecosystem disturbance adaptive processing system (LEDAPS) algorithm (Masek et al. 2006), and for Landsat 8 with the provisional Landsat 8 surface reflectance code (LaSRC) (Vermote et al. 2016). The study area is entirely covered by scenes captured in path 169 and row 59 of the Landsat Worldwide Reference System (WRS-2). Half-decadal time intervals were chosen for the years 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 to detect land-use and land-cover changes in the study region. References: Masek, J. G., Vermote, E.
