| Description: | Abstract: This is a Master Thesis about economic imacts in the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor in Namibia. Previous studies on development corridors have shown that regional growth often occurs only in certain places, especially nodes and gateway cities. In the case of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor (WBNLDC), various initiatives have been underway for a number of years to promote the regional economy of surrounding municipalities through investment projects and to integrate them into the value creation of the corridor. Since in the case of the WBNLDC there are no studies on the impact of the corridor on the regional economy yet, this work aims to fill this gap. By analysing satellite images over a period of 13 years on the urban growth of selected municipalities and by evaluating the investment projects, the study investigates how the impact of the corridor is distributed spatially and which municipalities benefit most from the corridor. The results reveal that mainly the gateway city and the nodes are the main beneficiaries, but that most of the municipalities still lack economic participation opportunities to benefit from the corridor. Therefore, the WBNLDC does not yet fulfil the conditions of a development corridor. |
