| Title: | Main Title: Field notes |
| Description: | Other: Work package 7 of the ERC Rewilding the Anthropocene project focuses on the socio-ecological relations between the foot-and-mouth disease virus and other species in the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. The fieldwork for this research happened in three periods: 1. November 2022-March 2023 2. September 2023-December 2023 3. November 2024 The fieldwork took place predominantly in Habu, a village on the western fringe of the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The village is located 8 kilometers from the Southern Buffalo Fence, and is an implementation site for the Herding 4 Health programme. The objective of the fieldwork was to understand how the Southern Buffalo Fence impacts people in Habu, how it functions and how it is perceived. The objective was also to understand how the Herding 4 Health programme is locally implemented, experienced and contested. Fieldwork focused on engagements with involved veterinarians, conservationists and farmers. The field notes capture moments of field work that provided ethnographic insights that otherwise are difficult to capture (unlike interview recording, for example). They describe activities I undertook and/or observed, spontaneous encounters, and informal conservations I had. I have written the field notes during moments where I was relatively undisturbed (often at the end of the day, but also where breaks presented themselves). All field notes have been anonymized. Where names are mentioned these are pseudonyms. Not all field notes could be anonymized and these have therefore been excluded. |
